Means of representing the regenerative process, which could also be seen in the 'tree-in-house' idea, was also taken to further stages of development by Aliim, who generated delicate concept drawings for a sculptural work.
The Seed could was initially envisioned as a lit element to a communal space; a drawing wall, which he envisaged as encircling the seed, allowing people to paint and draw by its light.
As with so many of our ideas (which were often ambitious !) we knew that the scale and permanence of this project was not achievable within a week, so we set to work envisioning ways that we could create a substantial 'presence' for the seed in other ways.
As a mural...
As a projection....
As an advertisement-like hoarding that could be viewed from the nearby train-line....
Taking into account Aliim's interest in Street Art, we thought of combining the strategy of the 'paste up' (such informal posting has historically been used to spread ideas or rally people to a cause) with the image of the seed as a powerful symbol.
This was both achieveable within our budget, and was an intervention that could be made with very little need for technology; just paste, a brush, and a bit of bravery.
And of course we sought the relevant permission before undertaking the work....
