Seedling ideas....

Back at Arc, the group reconvened to explore ideas for a 'Small Change' intervention in response to the theme of 'light'.

It was apparent that the remaining houses (soon to be demolished) remained a focus, and many ideas explored adapting that existing urban scape in some way.

Using inexpensive and easily manipulated materials allowed us to respond intuitively and creatively, playing with scale, texture and form.

Allowing the materials and processes to behave in ways that were perhaps not always anticipated allowed the ideas to expand through the process of making.

Growth, regeneration, natural and built, contrasting forms and textures.
The idea of a tree or a small orchard being planted within the walls of one of the remaining houses, creating a moment of wonder and optimism.

Back projecting colours or images from within the now vacant terraces recurred as a way of creating a subtle but potentially powerful intervention for a passing audience. A 'happened upon'  curiosity that could be used to explore collective memories.

A sculptural proposal reflecting the passage of time and change in a comunity, re-using metal girders from the site, which would be installed vertically like pillars, each showing a different stage of weathering, from polished steel, to a fully oxidised surface.
